WHAT IS MOKAN?

From the outside, we’re Kansas City’s only Nike grassroots basketball program, but that would be selling us far too short. We exist because kids need the gift of presence and an activity to facilitate the learning of life’s most crucial lessons. There are kids all over our region facing poverty, fatherlessness, failing schools and fractured communities. So we use the game of basketball to build character and make academics a priority. Logistically, we field seven nationally competitive High School age teams that travel all over the country to compete in events that will give our kids the chance to earn a college scholarship. In fact, we’ve established such an effective track record in doing so that Golden State Warrior Forward & 2014 NBA MVP, Kevin Durant, is now partnering with us in our mission.

WHAT IS MOKAN’S TRACK RECORD?

We just celebrated our 12th anniversary. Over the past decade we have had several young men that have needed amended home & school environments that we have been able to provide through our extensive network of volunteers. Similar to Marvin Clark in the documentary below, these new environments have allowed them to flourish both on & off the court. We have also had numerous student athletes who were failing academically and not meeting eligibility requirements. Through our tutoring and guidance, these students have been able to improve their grades and qualify academically which has helped build their confidence and give them a sense of accomplishment. These skills allow them to qualify for a college scholarship and more importantly help them succeed at the next level. Below are links to view our Alumni base and player stories.  We’ve had over 110 total college scholarship recipients, over 50 of which have been at the Division-I level — Over $24.9 million in scholarship assistance.

WHO ARE SOME OF MOKAN’S CURRENT SPONSORS?

In addition to many individuals, the companies & brands below are currently allowing for young men to be mentored, equipped with critical character traits, connected with academic resources & amended family environments, and facilitating the platform for kids to earn a free college education. Join them!

WHY IS MOKAN ASKING FOR MY HELP?

We would love to explain. Without your generosity, most of our High School student-athletes wouldn’t be able to participate. We need your help offsetting the costs of academic assistance, gym rental, basic travel, tournament fees, and a small stipend for a coach/mentor. Below is a link to where you can read more about the programming we provide.
