How Youth Basketball Program Sponsors in Kansas City are Changing Lives14 Aug 2017, Posted by Events in
Here at MOKAN Basketball, we’ve seen firsthand the power that youth basketball in Kansas City has to change lives for the better. Our student athletes are passionate about the game and about life, which gives our coaches and program leaders an opportunity to work with them to develop individual and team-based skills that will help them both on and off the court. At MOKAN Basketball, we prioritize academic and life skills every bit as much as skills on the court. Maybe that helps to explain why 100% of MOKAN program participants graduate from high school, and why we’ve produced more than 100 college basketball players since 2004. But we can’t do any of that without the support of youth basketball sponsorships from outstanding citizens like you.
MOKAN Basketball not only helps our student athletes—many of whom come from low- to moderate-income families—to excel in elite youth basketball, but we also provide academic assistance and life skills through a comprehensive program focusing on physical activity, health education, and civic engagement. Our coaches and mentors give our student athletes the one-on-one attention they need to excel at basketball and in the classroom. But as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely on youth basketball sponsorships to help provide the funding to keep our program going. In fact, 67% of our annual budget comes from sponsorships. Since 2004, MOKAN Basketball has helped hundreds of student athletes reach their full potential both on and off the court thanks to youth basketball sponsorships just like yours.
- 67% of our participants are from the Greater Kansas City Area, meaning that your sponsorship dollars will help those right here in our own community.
- 75% of MOKAN participants come from low- to moderate-income families.
- 95% of past MOKAN participants are currently enrolled in or have graduated from college.
- Over the years, we’ve produced more than 110 college scholarship recipients, more than 50 of whom have played college basketball at Division I level.
- We’ve also produced 3 NBA players since 2004.
When you sponsor MOKAN youth basketball, an average of 76 cents from every dollar sponsored goes directly to the program. Not only does that money help pay for facilities, transportation, program development, and tournament costs, but it also provides participants with ACT prep, coordinated academic tutoring, transcript evaluation, college planning assistance, and more, including taking program participants on college visits and providing them with financial aid assistance.
Thanks to the generosity and support of our youth basketball sponsors, MOKAN basketball has grown enormously over the years, and in 2017 we had more than 300 student athletes involved in the program. In order to continue providing the high level of quality programming that students in our community need to excel not only at basketball but also in the classroom and in their day-to-day lives, we need the support of youth basketball sponsorships. As MOKAN continues to grow, we can help more and more students across the Kanas City area. But we need your help. Click here to become a valued MOKAN youth basketball program sponsor.
